Multiple Dates

New dates through December 2021. This class is always in high demand. If no class dates are available, please consider our 2 day knife making class (http://knifeclass.eventzilla.net) or our tomahawk class (http://tomahawk.eventzilla.net).

Covid-19: We take safety very seriously in the forge. This last year due to state mandated lockdowns we were required to shutter our doors for months at a time. Going forward our policy is as follows: We have always limited class spaces to increase the amount of attention each student recieves in order to deliver the quality of instruction we believe you deserve. Classes are limited to 4 people in each class and we request that if you are experiencing any symptoms or signs of Covid or have a positive test that you reschedule for a future date out of respect for the others who will be attending with you. We intend to have dates through the first quarter of 2022 online shortly.

This is a 1 day class, with classes available on Sundays (and select Thursdays). Students will learn to forge a single blade during this class, a blacksmith or Viking style knife and learn to make a leather sheath custom for their knife. Students will learn to forge by hand, fire management, basic heat treating proceduces and blade forming techniques including grinding and filing. After forging and performing heat treatment, students will learn to make a basic template of their knives and use that template to create a custom leather sheath from veg tanned leather. While there is no set age requirements, we recommend the classes for ages 16 and over (email us regarding younger students, we just want to make sure it's worth our time and your money) and is limited to 3 students per class and scheduling is done on a first come, first serve basis. All materials, including steel, abrassives, leather and fuels needed to complete knives will be provided along with needed safety gear. We will be using a combination of coal and gas forges during classes. Belt grinders, air tools, abrasive saws and other power equipment may also be used by students. All classes are held in our indoor facility, rain, snow or shine! Attendees must wear jeans or work pants, closed toe shoes, preferably work boots and are encouraged to bring their own tools such as hammers or tongs if they have them but this is not required.

If you have any questions not answered here, please call us at 717.469.5802 - Please keep in mind that we can't answer availability dates any better than you can by using the drop down menu on this page.

We do not offer refunds for classes due to the advanced scheduling, limited spots available and lead time required to order materials and consumables for each student; however, we run classes year round and will gladly work with you to find a different class to better suit your schedule.
